Barnaby Collection Designed by Clowes

The Complete Barnaby, a collection of  Crockett Johnson's famed comic strip, will be designed by Clowes. The release of volume 1 in April of 2012 will coincide with the publication of Philip Nel's biography of Johnson.

The Death-Ray will be published this Fall. The graphic novel is a revised version of a story that first appeared in the long out-of-print comic book Eightball #23.

Noted director Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt, Election) is “attached” to a movie project based upon Clowes's graphic novel Wilson. Clowes will write the script.

From the Vault: Glenn Beck Illustration

This illustration was commissioned by the New York Times Magazine, but never published. They used a photograph instead.

CLOWES: I was asked by the NYT to draw Glenn Beck for the cover of the Sunday magazine - apparently, he wasn't going to sit down for a photo-shoot with the Times and so they had to hire an illustrator for their big profile. I had been longing to draw his blubbery face for some time and happily agreed. I turned in the illustration on a Monday and was told that Beck had in fact agreed to come in and sit for a photo over the weekend, so they couldn't use my illustration. Thanks for telling me. The B&W photo they used was perhaps a bit more complimentary to Mr. Beck, so I'd say he made a good call.

Mister Wonderful: April 2011

Mister Wonderful will be published on April 11. The book is an expanded version of a story originally serialized in the New York Times Sunday Magazine.

Daniel Clowes: Conversations, edited by Ken Parille and Isaac Cates, was just published by the University Press of Mississippi. The volume collects fifteen interviews conducted from 1988 to 2009.
