In the News: WBEZ posts MCAChicago interview and more...

WBEZ Chicago radio posted this interview with Daniel Clowes that was conducted by curator Susan Miller at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on June 28, 2013.

During the interview they cover a lot of ground including: starting out in comics, the beginnings of Eightball, a tribute to his publisher and friend Kim Thompson who recently and unexpectedly passed, the motivations behind creating Enid and Rebecca from Ghost World , what it's like having a retrospective exhibition at the MCA Chicago (the city Clowes grew up in), working in Comics vs. Film, and much more... (Also, listen for the very funny unexpected cameo by comedian and actor Patton Oswalt towards the end.)

And here's a few other recent links to articles tied into the Modern Cartoonist exhibition currently up at the MCA Chicago:

In Memoriam: Kim Thompson, 1956-2013

Kim Thompson, the beloved co-publisher of Fantagraphics passed away last week on June 19, 2013. Daniel Clowes (along with many others that worked closely with him) pay tribute at TCJ.com.

Here's an excerpt from Clowes's remembrance:
Kim was my long-distance friend, publisher, and occasional role model for thirty years. He was one of the last people with whom I had an old-fashioned telephone relationship and we maintained a casual, gossipy rapport, fully grounded in the mutual respect one feels toward a fellow lifer (usually these calls devolved into Kim trying to convince me to give DePalma’s Snake Eyes another try, or baiting me with the assertion that Franquin is the best cartoonist of all time). He loved being the first to share the news about comics events, and it occurs to me that this is the first major industry death that I didn’t first hear about from Kim himself.
